Apple Event: this is the new iPhone 13 and the surprises of the apple

Apple New Devices September 2021

The presentation of the new iPhone has returned to the traditional month of September, and although this will not be a revolutionary generation, it comes with several important novelties under its arm.

Today’s event has been special for Apple, for many reasons. Last year, Apple had no choice but to delay the introduction and launch of the iPhone 12 due to production problems associated not only with the pandemic but also with the new design.

With the iPhone 13, based largely on the advances of its predecessor, Apple has had the opportunity to ‘return to normality, and that has been reflected in the presentation itself, which has received the slogan “California Streaming”.

The presentation began with a musical number, precisely putting the prominence in the natural landscapes and the Californian cities. But soon the cameras were focused on Tim Cook, CEO of the company, who took the opportunity to praise and explain the location of Apple Park, his home.

The first announcement had to do with Apple TV +, the streaming service with original Apple programming, which has already won several awards from critics and the audience in the two years it has been in operation. Series premiering this fall include The Morning Show, Foundation, The Problem Wit John Stewart, Swagger, Finch, The Shrink Next Door, and more.

New iPad

Surprisingly, the first device presented by Apple was the new iPad, despite rumors that it could be delayed to the second event in September. iPadOS has evolved a lot, adapting to the larger screen size; Apple claims that the iPad has grown 40% this year.

The most basic and inexpensive model, known simply as the “New iPad”, will continue to be the entry point for many users in this ecosystem. Although at first glance it looks a lot like the old one, inside it uses a newer processor, the A13 Bionic Engine, which makes it 20% faster than the previous generation. According to Apple, it is 6 times faster than the best Android tablet.

That means that, despite its price, the new iPad will allow us to run the most advanced applications such as Adobe Fresco and video games without problems. The new Neural Engine will allow you to use smart functions more quickly, and the new camera has automatic focus; while on the front we now have a 12 MP camera with a field of view of 122 degrees, designed to make video calls. That is why the Center Stage function also wins, which automatically adjusts the image depending on the people it detects, centering them in the video; it is compatible with apps like Zoom, and can also be used on TikTok.

TrueTone, the function that adapts the color of the screen depending on the room, also reaches the most basic iPad, as well as Apple and Logitech keyboards, and is still compatible with the Apple Pencil.

The new iPad will come with iPadOS 15, which finally adapts the iOS 15 widgets and improves multitasking, allowing us to divide the screen into two apps. The new iPad will be priced at $329, with double the basic storage, 64GB.

New iPad Mini all screen

The iPad Mini will also receive a renewal, although in its case it will be more complete. The new model is completely different from the current one, with a design more similar to that of the iPad Pro. That means having a front “all-screen”, without the edges of the current model, to achieve 8.3 inches in the same compact size; the screen boasts 500 nits of brightness and TrueTone. TouchID is not lost but is integrated into the power button just like on the iPad Air.

The new iPad Mini will feature a new processor, assuming a 40% performance improvement over the previous generation, and an 80% improvement in 3D graphics, making it much more suitable for playing video games anywhere. And the neural engine is capable of translating spoken phrases in real-time.

For connectivity, the iPad Mini will feature USB-C, thus ditching Apple’s Lightning port; now it is 10 times faster than its predecessor, and it is compatible with all types of devices such as cameras. This tablet will also be part of Apple’s commitment to 5G, allowing us to download data faster than ever.

The cameras have been improved: the rear is 12 MP with a larger aperture to get clearer photos, accompanied by a flash and compatible with Smart HDR to highlight the details. On the front, it uses the same 122-degree field-of-view 12MP camera as the entry-level iPad, making it Center Stage compatible. The speakers are stereo and Apple promises a lot of power despite the size.

The new iPad Mini will come with new accessories, such as new sleeves, in addition to the second-generation Apple Pencil, which can be magnetically attached to the right.

The new iPad Mini will cost $499, available in versions with WiFi or 5G.

New Apple Watch Series 7

The Apple Watch is the absolute dominator of the wearables market, thanks in large part to its health-related features.

Apple has added features for cyclists, including a fall sensor that allows us to call 911 automatically, as well as new exercise cycles and compatibility with electric bicycles.

Apple has taken advantage of today’s event to teach the seventh generation and, surprisingly, all the rumors were wrong: the design has not changed from the previous generation, but in return the screen is much larger and reaches the edges of the device, with a curvature that meets the side. No, the edges are not flat as expected, but there is a certain redesign of the parts, making them bigger.

The interface has also changed to take advantage of the larger screen, including a full-size keyboard that uses machine learning to recommend words, and new buttons. The new watch faces use the most space on the screen in an aesthetic and functional way, showing more information or integrating data at the edge. Despite the larger screen, Apple promises that it is the toughest Apple Watch, with IP6X certification against dust and water resistance and a new cover on the screen resistant to scratches. Charging is much faster, 20 minutes of charging allows you to use the watch for 20 hours.

The Apple Watch Series 7 will be available in a variety of colors and new straps (current ones will still be compatible), and is made from 100% recycled aluminum. The Series 7 will be available for $499, while the Series 3 and Apple Watch SE will continue to be available.

Apple Fitness +, the exercise and health subscription service, will be available in 15 more countries (unconfirmed in Spain), and in more languages with Spanish subtitles. He also gains new exercises like Pilates, as well as meditation and calm exercises. On the occasion of the snow season, new exercises inspired by movement in the snow will be offered. And if we want to exercise with our friends, the new function of groups will allow us to participate in the exercises together.

New iPhone 13

The iPhone could not miss this appointment, of course, and Tim Cook was in charge of showing the new iPhone 13. As rumored, the design does not vary much compared to the iPhone 12, except for some details, such as the new system. of cameras that are now arranged diagonally; new colors are also available.

On the front, the notch is somewhat smaller thanks to the minituarization of the components used for FaceID. And the chassis and parts are made with recycled components; Inside, the components have been rearranged to fit a larger battery.

On the screen, it’s 20% brighter, peaking at 1200 nits in HDR10, but it’s also more efficient; the technology is OLED. The performance has also been improved, with a new chip, the A15 Bionic developed by Apple, based on 5nm technology to put 15,000 million transistors.

It has six cores, four of high efficiency and two more powerful, which allows improving Siri functions and applications such as Maps. According to Apple, that makes it 50% faster than the competition. The GPU is quad-core, obtaining a performance 30% higher than the competition, always according to data from Apple.

The iPhone 13 cameras are the most advanced dual system yet, according to the company, thanks to the new 12MP wide-angle sensor with a larger aperture for better performance in dark situations, the largest sensor Apple has ever put into a system. with two cameras. It has image stabilization and will be available on the cheapest models, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Mini.

The main 12 MP sensor has also been improved, while in the video the big news is the new cinematic mode, which imitates a technique used by filmmakers in movies, consisting of changing the focus automatically depending on whether the algorithms detect the presence of eyes looking at the camera, or the closeness of objects. It also doesn’t matter if the subject is moving, the focus will automatically follow, and it will also be able to detect when a subject enters the scene. This mode records in Dolby Vision HDR in real-time.

Despite the improvements, the battery of the iPhone 13 is better than the previous model; iPhone 13 lasts 2.5 hours longer than iPhone 12, making it capable of lasting all day of continuous use.

For privacy, Apple promises that Siri now does not have to share our voice commands, as it is able to interpret them on its own with the power of the new chip. The iPhone 13 also continues Apple’s commitment to MagSafe, with a new portfolio that we can find automatically.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini won’t cost more, costing $699 and $799 respectively, but now storage starts at 128GB, and a new 512GB option is added.

New iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max

Of course, where Apple has really thrown the rest is in the most cutting-edge models, which Tim Cook defined as “the most Pro iPhone ever.” As with the younger brothers, the cameras are the main protagonists, with a new set bigger than ever, precisely because the sensors are bigger; that will force to use new covers since the cameras occupy half of the back.

There are not many novelties in the design, but the sideband is aluminum, with four different finishes including a new “Sierra Blue”, a blue that has required the use of ceramics. On the front, the notch is smaller, since the size of the FaceID components has been reduced.

Inside, it has been completely redesigned to include a larger battery. Like the iPhone 13, the Pro models use the new A15 as a processor, but upgrade it with a new five-core GPU for the highest graphics performance in the industry, according to Apple.

The screen is new, Super Retina XDR, with a more efficient OLED panel with a peak brightness of 1000 nits and ProMotion; in other words, this is a fast screen that can reach 120 Hz. Apple’s algorithms can lower the frequency down to 10 Hz if it is only showing a still image, but it increases to 120 Hz if we move the interface; It is an instant process that will ensure that we have the best response at all times, but without consuming as much battery as leaving it fixed constantly.

In terms of cameras, Apple claims that this is its biggest advance so far, with new cameras, a new telephoto (with 3x optical zoom), a new wide-angle and a new main sensor; there are aperture and sensor size improvements in every way, allowing for more professional camera photos. The new wide angle allows you to take brighter and sharper photos and includes the new macro photography, which allows you to obtain great detail in close photos. All sensors now also have night mode.

Cameras can also be customized with photo styles, applying them in real time as the photo is taken; It is therefore different from filters, obtaining the results instantly when we are preparing the shot.

ProRes Video is a format used by professionals, and the A15 gets hardware acceleration, so it is now possible to record at 4K and 60 frames per second. It is the only mobile on the market that can record in that format with that quality.

To improve battery life, taking into account the new screens, cameras and processors, Apple claims that the iPhone 13 Pro Max will last 2.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the longest battery life in the history of the iPhone. .

Despite these advances, Apple says it does not raise prices, and the iPhone 13 Pro will cost $999 and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, $1,099. A new 1 TB storage option is also offered, which will be required to record high-quality video.
