Since Disney decided to bring all its classics to life, the controversy has been served. Of course with the last one, The Lion King, it was not going to be less. Extending the stories of our childhood so that they fulfill the duration that cinema demands today, entails taking certain licenses (right, genius rapper from Aladdin?).
The worst stops in all this fuss are often the songs, the soul of Disney movies. We have all lived with them in our heads, we constantly hum them, we even know the dialogues that precede them … and the horny Disney people go and change them. Well no, we don’t feel like it. Today we get nostalgic and we review the 20 best songs that you should all have in your playlists. We have chosen one per film, and it has been really difficult because we would put all the ones that exist.
Hakuna Matata – The Lion King
Live and be happy. Timon and Pumbaa’s lesson that many have not yet assimilated is one of the coolest songs on the Disney scene. Yes, things can go wrong, life can be very hard sometimes but hey, it’s two days. We are going to try to be happy and, above all, not to upset the rest. Hakuna Matata are two words in Swahili, a language spoken in East Africa. It means “no” “problems”. In addition, if we remember correctly, he left us one of the most representative shots of The Lion King in the sequence in which Simba, Pumbaa and Timon walk in line and Simba goes from cub to lioness. Impossible not to join in singing if someone hums Hakuna Matata, how beautiful it is to live.
Beauty and the Beast are – Beauty and the Beast
“You hear a song that makes you sigh …” Thus began the song that moved us all. Mrs. Potts, the lovely teapot from Beauty and the Beast, had already realized that something was going on between those two. Something between the two changes inadvertently. And this is how love is, which sees much more than the eyes. A special song that takes us again and again to tour that giant ballroom in which Beauty and the Beast went around incessantly. For me, in particular, it leads me to walk hand in hand with my father the way to school that we did every day. 20 years later, we sang it together again, this time I was holding her arm … and on the way to the altar.
A Whole New World – Aladdin
It was difficult to choose an Aladdin song, because they are all so good. An Ideal World is undoubtedly one of everyone’s favorites. But who are we kidding? the magic of that movie was completely blue. A Whole New World, with his salt shaker and his joke, but being a piece of bread at the same time. His introduction song makes us move our hips to the sound, and we even try to imitate that high-pitched tone that characterizes him so much. “He has plenty of genius to hand out”, what about you?
The Bare Necessities – The Jungle Book
If at some point someone has not realized that life is like a jungle, but with many fewer trees and many more snakes, open your eyes. But this is not why it is a hostile environment. Baloo already told us: among so many messes, look for the most vital. Look for what is important, and stop stories that do not contribute. Mother nature gives us everything we need, we create problems. A great message with a great rhythm, which makes you happy at any time of the day. We wish we could be as lazy as Baloo was, but we settle for having his witty humor.
Colors of the Wind – Pocahontas
Many times Pocahontas is the great forgotten of the compilations and it should not be like that. It has great songs and one of the stories that I like the most. Come on, confess, that after seeing her you also thought you could talk to animals. That has happened to all of us. Colors of the wind is one of the best songs in all of Disney, although it will surely go down in history because of the famous meme of “See you later, mari carmen”. Either way, it should be on all self-respecting playlists.
I will make a man out of you – Mulán
Risky, novel, and beautiful. This is Mulan’s film, the classic one, which allowed all girls to dream of being warriors and defending what is ours as well as anyone would. This song, apart from being great, has one of the best titles. The irony of the chosen words while in the sequence we see Mulan improving like any other classmate and finishing as the best of the group, is to get up and clap. With effort, with desire, with help too, whatever you want to be … you will be. Whether you are a man or a woman, just be yourself. Too bad the song is going to get lost in the upcoming live action movie.
Under the sea – The Little Mermaid
This is how we would like to be more than one at this time! bathing in the sea so calm. For those of us who can’t, Sebastián the crab with the coolest accent in all of Disney, dedicated this song to us, praising the virtues of The Little Mermaid’s house. Too bad he didn’t manage to convince her much and he got in afterwards. But the important thing is that everything ended well, right? Ritmazo and cool lyrics that will never go out of style.
Son of man – Tarzan
“Learn to teach, and by teaching you will learn, your life is with the one you love the most” Do you really have to look for more reasons to include this Tarzan song? If you don’t get the creeps singing the chorus, you should get the lyrics and the sequence in which we see little Tarzan becoming the man he was meant to be. Fitting into a group is never easy, but again, being yourself and doing things your way is the best way to find yourself, and then find others. Phil Collins and Mark Mancina were the creators of this soundtrack, and we were fortunate that Phil Collins himself also gave voice to the Spanish versions. A marvel, without a doubt.
From Zero to Hero – Hercules
If it were up to me, this list would be made up of the entire Hercules soundtrack … but I’ve relented and picked only one song per movie. Still, the songs of Hercules can not be missing in any compilation. The muses are the best that Disney has given us. What a rhythm, what a salt shaker and what dialogues mixed with the most brilliant lyrics. “From zero to hero in no time, he is the Hero, he is quite an ace” This is how you will feel if you have a bad day and play this catchy song. There is no one who can resist moving the skeleton.
You’ve Got A Friend In Me – Toy Story
It is probably one of the most sung songs in all the karaokes in the world. And we already know that with a certain level of spirits in the blood, friendship triples to unsuspected limits. If Toy Story isn’t the best movie about friendship, I don’t know what it will be. And this song is, simply, perfect to say to that person you are thinking about: Hey, I’m counting on you … you’re counting on me.
God Help The Outcasts – The Hunchback of Notre Dame
I am not lying when I say that it is one of the films that impacted me the most as a child. I loved it … and that it is quite harsh and touches not childish issues: racism, perverted religious, classism, social exclusion, mistreatment of people who are different … Faced with such a horrible situation, The Hunchback of Notre Dame brings light, art, gorgeous shots and a breathtaking soundtrack. Perhaps El Son de Notre Dame is the one that comes to mind the most, but God Help The Outcastsl is a real pass.
I see the light – Tangled
One of my favorites from the late Disney era is Tangled. It took me a long time to see it, I don’t know why, and when I finally saw it I spent the whole movie crying because it’s just great. Although the whole movie was great, the scene of the boat with the lanterns floating, and them realizing that there is mambo there, it takes away the hiccups. And the lyrics are beautiful and the voices, impressive.
Let It Go – Frozen
I think we can affirm that it is the song that has suffered the most parodies of all the Disney songs … and even so we all know it and it is inevitable to sing it when someone says: “let it go.” a precious voice stream that Elsa brought to life in the kingdom of ice, and that taught us to see our brothers and sisters with better eyes.
How Far I’ll Go – Moana
I must admit that I have special affection for Vaiana (Moana for the rest of the world). I was lucky to be able to go with my nephews and see this Disney movie on a giant screen. Fresh and new air for what Disney had us used to. I don’t know if I liked the movie more or seeing it through my nephews, but what I do know is that it has one of the catchiest soundtracks and the voice, is magical.
Heigh Ho – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Whoever has not represented the seven dwarfs at some point in their life singing “Heigh Ho, Heigh Ho, whistling while working, Any task is a pleasure, it is done without thinking.” So tiny and so diligent, the dwarfs conquered us in the movie. Years later, this song continues to be sung continuously to simulate someone who works … although that thing that any task is a pleasure we do not finish swallowing it completely.
Remember Me – Coco
To say that I cried with Coco is to stay very, very short. The visual spectacle that this marvel of a movie is, how funny and how direct to the potato it is, leaves you touched in one way or another. I only bought the Coco Steelbook because it has a design that is breathtaking. Is amazing. And the story … and the song. It breaks my soul remembering her. But surely unfortunately we all have more than one loved one to dedicate this beautiful song to. Wherever you are, it goes for you.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – Mary Poppins
We return to one of the classics. I think there is no more difficult word to say in the world that we have all learned to say so quickly and well. And this is like riding a bike, you never forget. Any time is a good time to say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and high-five with whoever lends itself, always pulling a smile as you go. Is it true that Mary was a bit of a witch and this is a spell to make us happy?
An Unusual Prince – Sleeping Beauty
This movie caused me more than a nightmare with the horrible scene in which he pricks himself with the spinning wheel and falls unconscious. But it does not mean that it is one of the great Disney masterpieces, with frames that could well be paintings exhibited in a museum. Hand colored, something as beautiful as this will never ever be made again. Although the story is now very old and out of date, and we are not princesses waiting to be rescued, sometimes it is nice to sing to our prince charming.
You Can Fly – Peter Pan
Maybe just by reading the title, a spring is activated in your head and you start playing the song with Gisela’s voice that we can’t get out of our heads. And he has a beautiful voice, and he always has. Peter Pan is one of the classic stories most loved by everyone and it could not be left out of this compilation. Hopefully one day he will come to our window and take us to Neverland, right?
Cruella De Vil – 101 Dalmatians
And finally, one of the nicest songs with one of the coolest classic movies. 101 Dalmatians is loved by everyone, can you imagine living with 101 puppies at home? What a madness! A curiosity is that in Mexico it was called “the night of cold noses” since dogs usually always have wet noses. Pongo’s owner, Roger, composes and sings this song about the villainous Cruella while the dogs make hilarious gestures. Impossible not to smile remembering this scene.
